Distractions

What distractions are keeping us from doing God’s will? What things are occupying our time?

Sometimes we get so caught up in things of the world, that we forget that there is eternity in our midst: eternal souls of precious people. People are hurting, suffering, and perhaps needing something we could give them if only we would pay attention and be willing to let go of our selfish focus. We are God’s hands and feet, but if we are distracting ourselves with all that is worldly, we are separating our hands and feet from the mind of God, and might become idle or misguided.

If we look outside of ourselves and consider the people all around us, we will see that there is beauty and eternity everywhere, and that the people are more important than the things of the world. We are here together, and God wants us to bless one another as we go through life. We are to do unto others as we would have done unto us. We are to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Think how much time we have spent focusing on ourselves and on what we like and what we want. Now think what would happen if we spent that time and energy focusing on the people around us to see what their needs are and to help them if we can. What a difference we could make!

Scripture reminds us, Look not every man only on his own things, but also on the things of others; consider others even more than you consider yourself (from Philippians 2:3-4).
